This is a house that we had admired from a distance for years.  Situated at the top of a rise looking down over green meadows to the river below, the house is a white Georgian farmhouse.  The new owners wanted to tear off a rickety old ell and put back a new addition, but one that fit with the architecture of the house. The architect, Anne Whitney,  designed a space that looked perfect with the house, and we designed and built the kitchen to go in that new ell.  The cabinets are made from hand planed pine.  They are painted a soft gold color that matches the existing chimney breasting in the adjacent great room.  Morse and Doak Builders, experts in Period restoration who have often collaborated with Kennebec, built the wooden table and counters from antique wood salvaged from the home.   They salvaged two hand hewn beams and installed them to run the full length of room, with a fireplace and hearth with  hidden television and wood box alcoves at the far end. You will notice that the appliances are paneled like the cabinets with hand wrought iron bean pulls.  The counters and sink are soapstone.
